ON BEHALF OF FIONA DALTON, DR. DARRYL KNIGHT, DR. JEFF PIKE AND BRIAN SIMMERS

We have reached another major milestone for the new St. Paul’s Hospital campus — the business plan for the Clinical Support and Research Centre (CSRC) has been approved by the provincial government.

Next week we’ll start the formal search for a Developer to partner with Providence to design and deliver the CSRC – the future home for our research centres, medical offices, corporate services, staff daycare, academic and industry partners.

As our state-of-the-art health innovation hub, the CSRC will be a game changer for us and for Vancouver. The heart of the building will be a large innovation centre, allowing us to bring together our patients, physicians, researchers and leaders with industry and academic partners to create synergies, spark ideas, collaborate, prototype and drive ground-breaking scientific research and medical breakthroughs.

Research will be supported by a suite of core facilities with state-of-the-art technology, world class biobanks, and teams providing statistical support, as well as economic, health and population impact. All co-located right next to the patients that we all serve.

As you know, at Providence everything starts and ends with the patient, and the CSRC will also allow us to deliver a continuum of care on our campus — acute care in the hospital, outpatient care in our clinics, and follow-up visits in a specialist’s office in the CSRC. It’s the same patient, same physician, same campus but with the right care, in the right place — for better use of our system’s acute care space.

The CSRC will also allow us to integrate research and innovation into everything we do — taking Providence’s culture of intellectual curiosity to the next level and enabling us to continue to advance treatment and care for people around the world. A place that matches our people’s brilliance, helps our intrapreneurs succeed, and attracts more top talent from around the world. A place where the best people want to be, and can be, their best.

Our plans are ambitious. But entirely attainable for our amazing Providence team. We have much more work ahead, and we hope many of you will want to be involved. Please share this great news with your team.
